Amadeo Valoria to be Named Honourary Knight of Orihuela 2025

Mayor Pepe Vegara announced his proposal on Monday, which will be presented to the council on February 27th

Amadeo Valoria, a distinguished figure, has been selected as the Honourary Knight Banner-Bearer for the Holy Burial Procession of Christ 2025 in Orihuela. Mayor Pepe Vegara announced this proposal on Monday, which has received the backing of the Municipal Corporation's spokespersons. The proposal will be presented to the council for approval on Thursday, February 27th.

During the press conference, Mayor Vegara, accompanied by the Councillor for Festivities, Rocío Ortuño, and spokespersons from various municipal groups, including Víctor Valverde (PP), Carolina Gracia (PSOE), Manuel Mestre (Vox), and José Aix (Ciudadanos), highlighted that "Amadeo is a highly respected and beloved figure in Orihuela, known for his professional, political, and social prestige over the years, making him truly deserving of this special recognition." The mayor expressed his emotion, stating, "The honour is ours, as he accepts this proposal."

Amadeo Valoria expressed his gratitude to the mayor, the municipal corporation, and all the people of Orihuela, stating that he hopes to "carry out this role with ease and, of course, with great pride on the upcoming Holy Saturday through the streets of Orihuela."

Distinguished Career

Born on October 8, 1958, in Orihuela, Amadeo Valoria is married to Josefina García Herrero, and they have two children, Esperanza and Amadeo.

He possesses extensive academic and professional training as a Specialist in Psychiatry. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Alicante in 1983, obtained a degree in Medicine from the University of Murcia in 1985, and earned a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Murcia in 1990, specializing in Psychiatry.

Valoria has always been closely linked to the Holy Week of Orihuela, where his involvement and participation have been consistently recognized. He has been a member of the Brotherhood of El Perdón since childhood, serving as one of the first torchbearers in the procession of Christ of Calvary. He was also the Banner-Bearer of the Brotherhood of El Perdón in 2004. He has been part of the Pillars of Solitude since before the creation of the current brotherhood, which he co-founded, serving as vice president until 2016. Additionally, he has been a member of the Singers of the Primitiva Pasión Federico Rogel for 27 years and was the speaker at the Los Aramos Proclamation in 2017.

Moreover, he has served as the president of the Unión Lírica Orcelitana, was named Illustrious Knight of the Royal Order of San Antón of Orihuela in 2022, and has received the Award for Professional Career from the Union of Murcian Hospitals and Clinics (UMHC). He is part of the musical group 'Ritmo Rancio', which collaborates with various charitable organizations. In his literary pursuits, he writes stories, notably one dedicated to the restoration of the cathedral organ, 'Por un tubo'.
