The Alicante Port Authority (APA) and the aluminium company Aludium are working to increase commercial traffic through the Port of Alicante, according to the institution after visiting the company's plant.

The meeting was attended by the President of the APA, Luis Rodríguez, and the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Marian Cano. After the meeting, the Port representative reiterated his "interest" in "strengthening collaboration with Aludium" and that the Alicante port facilities "handle part of its production," as stated to the company's advisor and co-founder, Manuel Ruano.

The multinational, with its plants in Alicante, Amorebieta (Biscay), and Castelsarrasin (France), produces around 250,000 tonnes of rolled aluminium annually, of which it exports more than 70 percent, as explained by the APA in a statement.

Rodríguez's goal is for "part of the production that currently departs from ports in the Basque Country and Cádiz to be redirected to Alicante via Miranda del Ebro, a strategic logistical connection that facilitates intermodal freight transport between the north and southeast of Spain for the past year."

The multinational exports more than 70% of the 250,000 tonnes of rolled aluminium it manufactures annually

The logistics group JSV operates a regular rail line connecting its terminal in Miranda de Ebro with its port hub in Alicante. This weekly service allows trains to depart on Thursdays from Miranda de Ebro and arrive on Friday mornings at the Alicante Port, transporting goods such as food products, paper coils, and steel materials.

"This rail connection not only improves efficiency in goods distribution but also positions the Port of Alicante as a key logistical node, integrating with the Atlantic Corridor in Miranda de Ebro and the Mediterranean Corridor," highlighted the APA.

Similarly, the Port Authority has insisted that "the intermodal rail-port connection, the Mediterranean Corridor, and the electrification of the tracks will be key factors in consolidating freight traffic."
