Altea is one of the most sought-after destinations on the Costa Blanca during this Easter Week, as evidenced by the fact that the hotel association Hosbec's forecasts consider it realistic to achieve full occupancy in the White Town. The massive influx of tourists to the Marina Baixa municipality will once again pose a significant challenge for road traffic in its streets, for which the local government has announced a special plan that will include road closures and restrictions in some areas.
Deo Sánchez, Councillor for Traffic and Public Safety, explains that "due to Easter Week, a special surveillance and security plan has been prepared for our town." In this regard, the Altea councillor has stated that during these dates "surveillance services will be reinforced on the Promenade and Old Town, as well as in urbanisations and beaches, in addition to services for processions and events organised during these days, which the Local Police will cover along with Altea Civil Protection personnel."
"In addition to surveillance tasks, special attention will be paid to traffic and compliance with municipal ordinances," added the councillor, who described the measures adopted.
Regarding the restrictions affecting the Old Town, Sánchez explained that from Holy Thursday at 12:00 p.m. until midnight on Easter Monday, April 21, the streets Sant Josep, San Miquel, and carrer Fondo will be closed to vehicle traffic. Therefore, only authorised residents with a valid access card will be able to enter these streets when needed, and goods vehicles for loading and unloading on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The streets with parking restrictions also in the Old Town are: Thursday, April 17, due to the Way of the Cross, the streets Calvari, Alcoi, Plaza Sant Xotxim, and Porrate from 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, due to the Procession of the Holy Burial, carrer Fondo, Calvari, Alcoi, Plaza de Sant Xotxim, and Porrate from 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, due to the Encounter procession, carrer Fondo from 5:00 p.m. And regarding restrictions in Altea La Vella, Sánchez noted that they will begin on Friday, April 18, due to the Way of the Cross in the streets Cura Llinares, Calvario, San Juan, Honda, and Santa Ana from 10:00 a.m., and the same streets from 5:00 p.m. for the Procession of the Holy Burial.
Finally, the municipal official for Traffic and Public Safety invites the population to respect these exceptional measures taken during Easter Week, which allow for the coordination of traditional religious events with the increase in tourism and pedestrian traffic during the Easter holiday period.
"If we all respect the rules established for these days, everything will proceed smoothly and comfortably, both for visitors and residents in the affected areas," concluded Deo Sánchez.
