The death of a five-year-old girl in Murcia allegedly at the hands of her mother's ex-partner has caused a terrible shock not only in the neighbouring region but also in the province of Alicante, where the alleged perpetrator was arrested, specifically in Torrevieja. While the Civil Guard investigates all the details of the crime, the Ministry of Equality has already pointed to a possible case of vicarious violence. The autopsy of the minor will have to clarify the exact causes of death, although everything indicates that it was apparently caused by the ingestion of numerous pills.
The investigation led by the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Murcia suggests that the alleged murderer, the ex-boyfriend of the child's adoptive mother, ended the child's life when they were both at the suspect's parents' apartment. Even the mother of the now-detained man, broken with grief, directly pointed to him when she tragically found the girl's body this Tuesday afternoon.
After the incident, the individual fled and reached Torrevieja. Once there, and according to TodoAlicante, the 48-year-old man went to the emergency room of the Torrevieja Hospital at night. He entered the emergency room and had no qualms about discussing aspects related to the macabre crime he had allegedly committed just a few hours earlier with medical staff.
The alleged murderer of the five-year-old girl was arrested by the Civil Guard shortly afterwards in Torrevieja, apparently while still in hospital facilities. There, in one of the emergency rooms, he was guarded overnight by Civil Guard officers, while outside, the Civil Guard also deployed a device to prevent possible disturbances. There were even fears that the victim's family might show up with intentions of taking justice into their own hands.
Sources consulted add that the suspect allegedly told hospital staff that he needed attention because he had ingested pills. It is possible that he used the same ones he allegedly made the girl take, although this is an aspect that still needs to be confirmed by the ongoing investigation by the Civil Guard.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, in an apartment in the hamlet of Llano de las Brujas. There, the parents of the now-detained man found the girl's body and called emergency services. After several unsuccessful attempts to revive her, only her death could be confirmed.
According to the Government Delegate in Murcia, the accused of the girl's death "had no criminal record" and there were no previous complaints of mistreatment by the child's mother, who was also not listed in the Comprehensive Monitoring System for Gender Violence Cases (VioGén).
The Government Delegate in the Region, Mariola Guevara, has indicated that an autopsy will also be performed on the girl's body to determine the exact causes of death. "We know it is due to the ingestion of some substance, but we need to determine what type of substance it was," Guevara said in response to journalists' questions.
"Everything indicates that this man allegedly intended to harm his ex-partner with a child, which is what one loves most, his daughter," added the central government's delegate, who hopes that the perpetrator of the homicide will be judged "with the utmost determination."
