Alicante unveils new parking facility increasing spaces to 624 for Hogueras

La ciudad de Alicante contará desde el próximo 18 de junio con un nuevo aparcamiento público. Se trata de un parking provisional que la Generalitat ha construido en las inmediaciones de la estación de tren de Adif, con motivo de las obras de la intermodal.

It was on Monday morning when the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, accompanied by the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, presented the new project, which is being finalised for the Hogueras de Alicante.

The new parking at the Alicante terminal expands the current capacity by 204 spaces, offering a total of 624 parking spots in anticipation of the Hogueras festival.

Both facilities will operate during the main week of June to "facilitate travel" for locals and visitors. Thus, access to this new Alicante parking coexists with the current one: from Aguilera Avenue via Alcalde Rafael Millá Santos Street.

The Generalitat has created this new temporary parking to compensate Adif for the spaces lost due to the intermodal and central station works of the Alicante Tram.

The current excavation work to build the new station box - which will connect buses with trams, trains, and AVE - has necessitated the removal of several Adif parking spaces and the reconfiguration of pedestrian and vehicle access.

After the Hogueras festival, the works will progress and 'consume' 124 parking spaces. Therefore, this new temporary parking will ensure a total of 500 spots to serve visitors and tourists arriving in Alicante during the high season.

However, by the end of summer, another 100 spaces will be occupied, and the vehicle access to the parking will be modified, moving to Médico Pedro Herrero Street - behind the new City of Justice, still under construction - which will be expanded with more temporary spots in the coming months.

The works of the future central station of the Alicante Tram - with an investment of 102 million euros - are progressing "at a good pace" and "without rest", Mazón also acknowledged this Monday. For now, the 52-month deadline remains, with the intention to complete between late 2027 and early 2028.

The current state of the works allows for the appreciation of the station box excavation. Added to this will be the works to open the tunnel under the avenue that will continue the already constructed infrastructure, "a wall" according to Mazón, which is part of the Luceros station.

This section of the tunnel is 72 metres long and will serve as a connection with the infrastructure already executed under the Station Avenue and the new central station below ground, which will feature access points and lobbies, and the floor that will house platforms and four tracks.
