The Alicante Tram has impressively circled the globe more than 77 times, if measured along the equator. The six tram lines operating in the province of Alicante covered a total of 3,086,862 kilometres last year.
The total distance travelled by each tram line has been calculated, and the Department of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory has equated this to the number of times around the Earth's perimeter, following the equatorial line.
The Line 1 of the Alicante Tram, connecting Luceros and Benidorm, leads in terms of distance covered. This route alone accounted for 1,120,363 kilometres in 2024.
Following closely are the trams of Line 9, which links Benidorm with Dénia through the coastal route, accumulating 667,265 kilometres.
This breakdown continues with Line 2 - between Alicante and San Vicente - covering 436,010 kilometres, Line 3 - between Alicante and El Campello - with 415,815 kilometres, Line 4 - between Alicante and San Juan beach - with 243,524 kilometres; and Line 5 completing the map with 192,885 kilometres.
This vast distance, exceeding three million kilometres, is the result of 164,840 journeys made by FGV trains and trams across the province and its various municipalities, averaging 452 services daily.
The total services offered in 2024 are distributed as follows: 25,876 train-TRAM services on Line 1; 48,799 tram services on Line 2; 29,558 tram services on Line 3; 25,309 tram services on Line 4; 21,888 circulations on Line 5; and 13,410 train services on Line 9.
