Alicante, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025, to Conquer Fitur
The city will debut with this title in Madrid, unveiling the main activities planned for the coming months

Alicante loads its artillery and sets course for Madrid to wage the battle. It will be at Ifema where the conquest of Fitur takes place, proudly showcasing its new title, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025. The city will present at this fair the main milestones that will span the year.
There will be only a few days, from January 22 to 26, to recount so many activities, also focused on other aspects of the city. However, Mayor Luis Barcala will travel to the Spanish capital to present the municipality's gastronomic capital status.
During this stopover at Fitur, Barcala will unveil the main activities to be carried out in the city throughout the year, in celebration of the gastronomic capital status. He will also present the launch of the tourism promotion campaign, which aims to attract new visitors through their palates and stomachs.
In relation, another major milestone at Fitur will be the handover of this title. On Thursday, January 23, the gastronomic capital handover will be staged from Oviedo, thus passing the baton to the city of a thousand and one rices.
This ceremonial takeover will occur a day after a day dedicated to Alicante, which will take place at the start of Fitur, on January 22 in the central square of the new pavilion of the Comunitat, where the image of the 'Mediterranean to the table' campaign will also be presented.
Thus, the culinary offer and culture will play a fundamental role with Alicante as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, a title that entails the development of activities for the general public and professionals throughout the year to promote rice dishes, typical dishes with Alicante products, and the city's establishments, as well as a tourist attraction for the national and international market.
Congresses and film tourism, also at Fitur
In addition to focusing as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025, Alicante will also bring film tourism and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) to Fitur. All this will coexist with the rest of the city's segmented products, such as sports tourism.
All this will be presented under the strategic pillars of sustainability, innovation, and accessibility; within the framework of the most important event of the year for tourism with the participation of 152 countries and 9,000 exhibitors.
In addition, technical meetings with tour operators and airlines, with companies in the tourism sector, and the signing of a collaboration agreement with Malaga and a specific agreement with Albacete, where the promotion days of the Hogueras de Alicante will be held next April. Furthermore, the provincial capital joins the FEMP manifesto for tourist cities.
