Alicante has set a new record for waste collection during the main week of the Hogueras festival. According to the City Council this Friday, the capital's cleaning service collected 3,657 tonnes of waste between June 18 and 25, compared to 3,204 recorded in 2024. This is exactly 453 tonnes more, representing a 14% increase.
Additionally, another 664 tonnes of ashes and remnants from the Cremà of the monuments were cleared, 21 more than last year (+3.3%). According to the municipal government, the 'door-to-door' collection in racós and barracas has once again worked positively for the second consecutive year, allowing the removal of street containers.
The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Street Cleaning and Waste Management, Manuel Villar, highlighted that "this increase in collected waste demonstrates both the increase in visitors the city has experienced during these festive days and the greater development of fogueril monuments."
Villar expressed gratitude for "the consolidation of this system (door-to-door) in its second year of operation thanks to everyone's collaboration, which improves waste management and enhances the city's image." He also emphasised the results of "reinforced cleaning throughout the city centre in response to the large influx of visitors that filled the streets."
Therefore, he did not hesitate to praise "the efforts of the workers and the cleaning and waste collection service concessionaire, Netial, for this great work and for reaching a satisfactory collective agreement just before the Hogueras."

The councillor emphasised the installation of portable toilets on the streets to prevent public urination. "This year, we have installed more than fifty additional public toilets in the city, including new urinals that have also been reinforced."
Villar, as he did at the end of the celebrations, highlighted "the successful operation of the Cremà device, covering all fogueril districts in three shifts." These teams finished at five in the morning, after which a cleaning operation "allowed the city to be operational from the early hours, completing the removal and cleaning of the last remnants before noon on the 25th."
The Deputy Mayor stated that cleaning services will continue with follow-up tasks throughout the municipality during the coming week, with street washing and other operations, until the complete readiness of streets and squares is achieved.
