Alicante will resume the works to complete the 15 homes at El Portón in the Old Town before the end of the year. The Municipal Housing Board of the Alicante City Council plans to award this action next Wednesday in its General Meeting to Gestaser Obras y Servicios S.L. The company has submitted the best-valued offer of the six that participated in the tender, with a budget of 1,413,398.33 euros to complete the construction, as well as the initial cleaning and maintenance of the facilities for a period of three years.
The Municipal Housing Board resumes with this award an action that went out to tender for 1,714,702.26 euros and a nine-month execution period, after completing the basic execution project last May. These apartments will be allocated to social rental housing within a specific rental program for young people and as a novelty, it presents the increase of apartments from 13 to 15 by taking advantage of the premises with two new units. In addition, a pedestrian crossing and a new square are generated upon completion of the urbanization of its surroundings.

The reactivation of the project occurs after the cancellation of the previous contract last February due to delays by the awarded company, with the aim of speeding up the completion of the works fulfilling the commitment made by the government team and the Housing Councilor, Carlos de Juan, to resume the works as soon as possible.
In 2021, the Municipal Housing Board tendered the completion of the building of 13 homes El Portón and a premises without a defined use, whose project is adjusted to the 2006 project that obtained a building permit, and was approved by the Local Government Board, in August of that same year.
Due to the contractor's non-compliance, the General Board of the Patronato, in session on February 16 of this 2024, approves the resolution and settlement of the works, for the drafting of the new approved project to be able to tender the works and complete the social rental housing action for young people.
The residential program includes the completion of the apartment homes, one of which is accessible for people with reduced mobility, a laundry room, and a community premises located at the level of the new square. Likewise, it includes the transformation of the premises without a defined use located on the ground and first floor into a four double bedroom home on the ground floor, for shared or supervised use, and an accessible apartment on the first floor, thus obtaining a total of 15 homes.
The project also includes the completion of the residential building, the installation of an elevator for shared use with the residents of Santa Cruz and the completion of the urbanization of the contact areas with San Bartolomé, San Luis, and Teniente Daoíz streets, where a new pedestrian crossing to San Bartolomé street and a new square are generated, which will provide new accessibility solutions to the residents of Santa Cruz.
