Users of the public libraries of Alicante have new titles to read. The City Council has updated the municipal lending network's collection with the addition of 900 copies, which include the latest editorial releases and award-winning books.

The municipal libraries now have over 400 new books—some acquired in duplicate or triplicate, depending on anticipated demand—from 250 national and international authors.

Among the literary awards are 'Victoria', the 2024 Planeta Prize; 'Fuego en la garganta', finalist for the 2024 Planeta Prize; 'Bajo tierra seca', the 2024 Nadal Prize; 'Loor', the 2024 Primavera Novel Prize; and 'La tierra bajo tus pies', the 2024 Azorín Novel Prize.

The central library of Florida Babel receives the largest number of copies, nearly 300, due to its size and also because it can make internal loans to any of the other nine municipal libraries located in the city if a request is received.

"The goal is for all citizens to have access to the books they want to read and to promote culture through reading by providing all the facilities," stated the Councillor for Culture, Antonio Peral.

Among the national authors, works by Carme Chaparro, Carmen Arteaga, Maruja Torres, Carmen Mola, Fernando Aramburu, Julia Navarro, Sonsoles Ónega, Máxim Huerta, Dolores Redondo, and Víctor Del Árbol have been purchased; and international authors such as George Herriman, Lucinda Riley, Grégoire Laforce, Paula Hawkins, Lewis, Jean-Paul Dubois, and Lucy Score, among others.
