The intense heatwave expected this weekend has prompted Alicante City Council to activate the adverse weather protocol for homeless people, which will be operational this Saturday and Sunday, with the possibility of extension if necessary.
The measure is being taken following the yellow alert forecast in Alicante for the next two days, with temperatures expected to reach a minimum of 24ºC and a maximum of 31ºC on Saturday, and a minimum of 25ºC and a maximum of 32ºC on Sunday.
The protocol includes opening the gymnasium at Alicante's Centre for Social Emergency and Shelter (CAUS) from 11 am to 7 pm, allowing homeless individuals to spend the hottest hours there.
Additionally, food, water, and a personalised hygiene kit will be provided, and patrols will be organised to inform and guide homeless individuals about the option to go to CAUS.
