Alicante aims to become a destination for cinema enthusiasts. This is one of the major initiatives for this year's Fitur. The City Council has signed an agreement with the Department of Tourism to boost film tourism and promote the Ciudad de la Luz studios. The city seeks to attract major national and international film productions to stimulate the sector and serve as a foundation to draw this growing segment.
The signing of the agreement took place at the international fair, attended by the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Marián Cano, and the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala. Both emphasized the "importance of film-loving travellers who become spectators in search of these filming locations."
On Wednesday, the Department of Tourism presented its Film Routes, featuring interactive QR codes at locations, and with this agreement, the aim is to go further to attract people who choose destinations based on their favourite series and films. "This type of tourism can be channelled towards Alicante thanks to productions filmed in its locations or at the Aguamarga studios," the minister noted. More than 50 productions have had significant economic impacts.

In this regard, the agreement aligns with the Generalitat's idea of promoting the audiovisual industry as a key pillar of the region. Initiatives will be undertaken to promote locations and hold meetings with production companies to market the Aguamarga film studios. Similarly, they agree to create an information and communication space between both entities to annually share global data related to the number of shoots and other data to assess the economic impact of filming in Alicante.
Barcala stressed the importance of this type of tourism, asserting that "Alicante has everything to attract major national and international productions that have a significant impact on the city." The mayor praised the "good path" the industry is on to "attract production companies with Ciudad de la Luz and enhance Alicante as a setting for filming stories that will captivate millions of viewers."
Among other initiatives to be worked on, the Alicante City Council, through its specialized unit in meeting tourism (MICE), the 'Alicante Convention Bureau', will provide Ciudad de la Luz with all its promotional tools to spread the word about spaces and facilities that can attract this type of tourism to the studios.
Finally, both parties will work to establish training mechanisms focused on the audiovisual industry, aiming to form a pool of specialized professionals that production companies can rely on when filming their projects in the Valencian Community.
