Alicante progresses in the renovation of Santa Cruz stairs
The works on the structure connecting Toledo and Lepanto streets will secure the wall

The Alicante City Council has taken another step forward to repair the stairs on Toledo Street in the heart of the city's Old Town. The Government Board approved this Tuesday the safety and health plan for the refurbishment of the stairs on Divina Pastora Street in the Santa Cruz neighborhood.
The works, which should be completed in six months, have been awarded to the company Nerco Infraestructuras S.L. for 415,162.50 euros.

This is the final step before starting the project to recover this access, temporarily closed after cracks appeared, prompting the need to prevent pedestrian passage and begin drafting a rehabilitation project.
The repair projects of walls and stairs located on Divina Pastora Street, between Toledo and Lepanto streets, in the Santa Cruz neighborhood, went out to tender with a base budget of 480,551.23 euros and a six-month execution period.
Reinforcement of the wall and replacement of the staircase
"With these projects, we address the urgent needs identified in Santa Cruz, requiring a comprehensive intervention to maintain this vertical communication in use, affecting both the stairs and the wall of the small square," highlights the Infrastructure Councillor, Cristina García.
The repair works on walls and stairs located on Toledo and Divina Pastora streets in the Santa Cruz neighborhood include the demolition of the stairs to reinforce their foundation, as well as the inspection of underground water networks. Also, the sanitation of the lateral retaining wall for its reconstruction and the replacement of tiles, pavements, railings, lighting, and urban furniture elements.
These renovation and conditioning works on Toledo and Divina Pastora streets involve the temporary relocation of tenants living in the two houses accessed by the stairs, which are part of the Municipal Housing Board's real estate portfolio.
