On May 10th, the city of Alicante will celebrate the cultural spring with a festival of art and gastronomy on Poeta Quintana street. This year, under the slogan 'Quintana. La sangre altera', nearly a hundred shops will take to the streets to enjoy a commercial day with a "well-established and anticipated" event that brings together hundreds of people to promote leisure, culture, and shopping.
The event, organized by the Quintana Zone Merchants Association in collaboration with the Alicante City Council, will feature live music and performances, gastronomy and tastings, children's activities, workshops, and will gather artists and illustrators to promote culture, according to a statement from the council.
Thus, Alicante merchants are organizing a "very special" new edition of Quintana with "many surprises", where gastronomy will play a significant role, focusing on offering a program of initiatives to "enjoy culture and artistic performances".
Lidia López, the Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality, highlighted that this event is "a commerce festival organized to invigorate the area and bring it closer to the city, showcasing its local establishments, and where we enjoy a special day with many activities promoting leisure and shopping, emphasizing the importance of supporting local commerce that offers quality services".
Meanwhile, the president of the Quintana Zone Association, Jordi Gisbert, encouraged participation: "It is a very special day for all the merchants that we organize with great affection to celebrate the local commerce festival of the Quintana area with Alicante residents and visitors. And this year there will be many surprises and it will once again be a great event with a multitude of initiatives and activities".
In this context, the Alicante City Council is awarding the best shops and hospitality establishments this year, with a competition featuring six categories. The council will recognize with 36,000 euros the best business trajectory, digitalization, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, neighborhood commerce, and a special award in this edition for Menu 'Alicante, Spanish capital of gastronomy'. The deadline for registration ends on April 23rd, and companies wishing to apply can do so online.
The awards are open to individuals, micro-enterprises, and small businesses with up to 49 employees engaged in retail, hospitality, or active services, located in commercial premises and urban areas, as well as commercial units in markets and stalls in municipal markets and food galleries.
Additionally, the Alicante City Council also offers merchants a specialized course to learn how to manage their social networks and design content. Titled 'Principles of the Community Manager', it is organized from May 28th to 30th, and from June 2nd to 18th, in the morning from 9:00 to 14:00. The training will take place at the EDUSI Office, located in the old tobacco factory, and is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, taught by Adecco and funded by the European Next Generation.
