Alicante opens the call for creative residencies at Las Cigarreras: up to 2,900 euros in grants

The Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Las Cigarreras in Alicante will once again host creative residencies. The City Council, through the Department of Culture, has opened the registration period for participation in the initiative, which will select six proposals with 2,900 euros for each.

This second call for artistic residencies at Las Cigarreras will take place between October and November, with a total duration of four weeks for each project, and the registration period will be open until June 30.

The initiative aims to foster encounters between disciplines, territories, and cultural agents. "It encourages artistic research, promotes artist interaction, is well-received, and offers very interesting results," stated the Councillor for Culture, Nayma Beldjilali.

The residencies offer space, technical resources, and accommodation for the winning proposals, in addition to representing an "institutional commitment" to creation processes and the bonds they generate.

The proposal is designed to support artists and collectives in their research, facilitate interaction between creators and cultural agents, and project Alicante as a hub for artistic connection and professionalisation. The residencies are open spaces for coexistence, critical thinking, and exchange, both with other artists and with the surrounding environment.

The call is aimed at artists, authors, or collectives over the age of majority working in the field of contemporary creation. Two of the places will be reserved for people registered in the province of Alicante, while the remaining ones will be open to participants from across the country.

The registration period will be open until June 30, 2025, through the platform www.concual.es, where the requirements, documentation needed, and selection criteria are detailed. Only one project per person or collective will be accepted.

The selection of projects will be carried out by a committee of professionals from the artistic, academic, and technical fields. The suitability to the programme's objectives, innovation, artistic quality, applicant's trajectory, and proposal viability will be assessed.
