In the municipalities of Petrer, Elda and Monóvar, there is currently a vehicle fleet of over 45,500 cars, 6,000 motorcycles, 5,600 mopeds, 2,500 vans, and 3,600 trucks, according to the Ministry of the Interior. This highlights the necessity of having a permanent ITV station in the area.
Therefore, the Petrer Town Council has announced its intention to offer a 4,200 square meter plot of buildable land between Guirney and the San Rafael neighborhood, next to a cement factory, for the construction of a Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) station to serve the region.
In a press conference, the Urban Planning Councillor, David Morcillo, emphasized that this initiative responds to a historical demand from the citizens and the business sector of Medio Vinalopó, who have had to travel to other towns like Villena or Novelda, where a mobile station is set up, to comply with the mandatory vehicle inspection.
"The lack of a permanent ITV in our region is a significant inconvenience for drivers who must travel to fulfill a legal obligation. From the Town Council, we have identified this municipally-owned plot, designated for industrial or tertiary use, as an ideal space to offer to the Department of Economy, with the aim of realizing this much-demanded infrastructure," explained Morcillo.
The Town Council proposes transferring the land to the Generalitat Valenciana, which, through the public company Sitval, responsible for managing ITV stations in the Valencian Community, could develop the new station. "From the Urban Planning and Economic Development departments, we will provide all necessary support to expedite the procedures and make this proposal a reality as soon as possible," added the councillor.
Meanwhile, the president of the Medio Vinalopó Business Circle, Juan José Hernández, has highly praised the Town Council's proposal, emphasizing that the lack of an ITV in the region directly affects businesses and transport operators. "We have been demanding this service for years. The itinerant ITV that has operated in Elda and Novelda at times is not sufficient, as it only allows the inspection of cars and motorcycles, excluding industrial vehicles. A permanent station would meet an essential need for the business community and citizens," Hernández stated.
The Petrer Town Council will begin proceedings with the Department of Economy to ensure this infrastructure is realized as soon as possible, aiming to improve service to citizens and reduce unnecessary travel to other towns.
