One of the major issues in downtown Alicante is the lack of parking. Much of the historic center consists of residential buildings without underground parking or garages, forcing many residents of Poeta Quintana, Velázquez, and Benito Pérez Galdós upwards to park on the street.

Additionally, a significant number of people work in the city center and commute from other neighborhoods, suburban areas, or commuter towns like San Vicente del Raspeig or Sant Joan. This is not to mention those who occasionally need to come downtown for errands.

The recent works associated with the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) have further complicated the search for parking by removing some on-street spaces in favor of pedestrian mobility and public transport. However, for many people, using a car remains the only option due to personal, work-related, or scheduling reasons. They often spend hours each week driving around looking for a spot.

This issue is not confined to weekdays; it also affects Saturdays when the city's main leisure areas such as Castaños Street and its surroundings, as well as the Old Town and the port area, become extremely crowded.
