The province of Alicante is a leader in hotel sales in Spain, at least in terms of listings. The territory offered a total of 103 properties during the month of August, according to a report from the Idealista portal, compared to the 91 published in the same period last year.

Thus, the number of hotels for sale in the province of Alicante has increased by 232% in just one year. The territory far exceeds the national average, where the percentage of licensed establishments for sale has decreased by eight percent compared to the summer of 2023.

It was after the pandemic that the supply of these licensed complexes increased significantly. However, investor interest in the hotel sector—due to the tourism boom in Alicante and the rest of Spain—led to the acquisition of hotels to take advantage of record national tourism figures.

In this regard, and according to data from the real estate portal, the supply of hotels has not stopped growing, reaching its peak in August 2023, when it exceeded 1,300 listings on the platform. However, this figure remains stable, as the 8% variation compared to those offered this year accounts for only a difference of 108 complexes.

Even so, the most striking data from this report is that Alicante is the only province that remains above a hundred listings. Other beach destinations, such as Balearic Islands, Málaga, and Girona, have seen a decrease in their listings due to interest in acquiring establishments in coastal areas driven by national and international tourist demand.

These provinces also accumulate, after Alicante, the largest stock of hotels for sale. In Málaga, there are 88 listings, 18 fewer than last summer, and in Balearic Islands there are 84, nearly 30 fewer. Also notable are territories that have seen their hotel supply decrease, such as Barcelona with 45 fewer listings or Las Palmas with 38 fewer hotels on the market.

There were also declines in Madrid, exceeding twenty fewer listings. Additionally, in eight other provinces, stock remained unchanged between highs and lows recorded over the past year. Notable examples include Tarragona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Granada.
