Alicante has hosted the most important international event in ophthalmology. The twenty-second edition of the congress online ARI 2024, led by the renowned Dr. Jorge Alió, gathers over a hundred national and international experts to showcase advancements in refractive surgery, cataract, and cornea.

For the Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Researcher at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, "it is probably the most important online congress in Europe, even worldwide, on topics concerning surgery and study of the anterior segment of the eye: cornea, cataract, intraocular lenses, surgical defects, and glaucoma."

To showcase the latest advancements in refractive surgery, cataract, and cornea, more than a hundred national and international experts will participate until October 26 in this course, which develops an ambitious program with specific neuroeducational approaches. Thus, twelve sessions divided into twelve thematic areas will cover all surgery and treatment of the ocular surface, corneal transplant, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and different types of intraocular lenses.

Consolidated as one of the most important international online events in ophthalmology, ARI 2024 is held at the Vissum Alicante facilities, from where it is broadcast globally through an original online format. In this way, invited professionals present their recorded lectures to be commented on live by a panel of experts. The event, with free registration, is conducted in both Spanish and English.

"Over time, this format has transformed into a new medium of communication and medical education. An innovative teaching space where the temporal and spatial barriers of training are broken," says Jorge Alió. Any interested professional, whether in ophthalmology or optometry, can access the information from anywhere in the world, both live and in the following days, through the exclusive medical education platform enabled.

"In 2023, it became the most attended international online meeting, covering all corners of the world, from India to the Maldives, through Spain and Latin America, even Asia-Pacific," says Prof. Alió. This demonstrates the attraction and interest power of ARI for ophthalmologists and optometrists, being able to discover the latest in vision sciences and stay updated on ophthalmological news, both clinical and surgical.

This unique meeting in the world has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, where the online university course 'Clinical Refractive, Cataract and Corneal Surgery Course' is also developed, which has been held for more than eleven years and is accredited with European Continuing Medical Education Credits (ECMECs).
