The Alicante City Council has started to incorporate ten new workers per week into the cleaning service with the aim of improving the condition of the streets and strengthening a service that, in recent days, has been subject to criticism. The decision is part of a broader municipal strategy to restore normality in the neighbourhoods and respond with actions to residents' demands.

This progressive reinforcement of staff comes at a time of particular sensitivity following the demonstration held this past Monday, where around 200 residents demanded urgent improvements in the city's cleanliness through a protest at the City Hall's doorstep.

The Councillor for Cleaning, Manuel Villar, has assured that they respect all opinions and understand the residents' discontent. He made it clear that 'the work to solve the problem is already underway', and that the planned actions are progressing 'in a climate of normality and without tension'.

He also acknowledged that there may be 'specific issues' related to cleanliness problems in the city, which, as he stressed, 'is in condition and in order'. In fact, he considers that Alicante 'is constantly being cleaned' and 'getting dirty, like any other city in the world'.

Compromís will request Villar’s resignation in July

Compromís has announced that in the July plenary session, they will request the resignation or dismissal of Villar as councillor due to the management of the municipal cleaning service, which is provided by the concessionaire UTE Netial.

The government team has made it clear that they are maintaining direct oversight of the contract, actively engaging to ensure that the service is always provided in the best possible conditions at all times: 'That is our obligation and our daily motivation: to ensure the service is provided in the best conditions for a tourist city, in a period like summer, which is the most challenging time of the year,' they concluded.

Despite the context of neighbourhood protest in recent days, where more than 200 people gathered yesterday afternoon to demand street cleanliness, the City Council has insisted that the atmosphere in which this reorganisation is taking place is one of calm and collaboration.
