Valencian Community is in mourning for the, counted so far, at least 70 fatalities caused by Dana as it passed through the province of Valencia. The city of Alicante and its agents have joined the neighboring region's grief and have decided to suspend the activities planned for the last days of the week due to Halloween and All Saints' Day.

The Alicante City Council announced on Thursday afternoon that "in response to the tragedy that occurred" and "as a show of solidarity and deep respect for the victims and affected" it has decided to cancel the entire institutional agenda for the weekend. "Both Mayor Luis Barcala and the members of the Government team will not attend the scheduled and confirmed events in the coming days."

Likewise, the municipal Executive has recommended to the city's associations and federations that "adopt a similar measure in mourning for this catastrophe". Following this guideline, the Federació de les Fogueres de Sant Joan has also joined the "official" mourning and has suspended the agenda of the members of the governing body of the Hogueras de Alicante and, also, those of the belleas del foc and their dames d'honor for the coming days.

Similarly, the Federació has also recommended to the rest of the hogueras and barracas associations to suspend or postpone all parties and other scheduled events "in solidarity with the victims of the catastrophe that occurred in Valencia". At the same time, it has insisted that all decisions be communicated to the City Council while "we regret the inconvenience and send our most sincere support to the victims and their families".

For its part, the Junta Mayor de Hermandades y Cofradías de la Semana Santa de Alicante has conveyed its "deepest condolences to all the victims of the fatal Dana". "Once again we bow before the Holy Face and pray for the soul of all those who have lost their lives in these tragic events".

The Federation of Festive Associations of Neighborhoods and Districts of Alicante (Fafba) has also joined the condolences. "All our support in the affected regions of the province of Valencia", they have stated. "A desolate silence with a halo of hope, that unity and brotherhood that characterizes the inhabitants of this wonderful land where it does not know how to rain."

Halloween parties canceled in neighborhoods

The Department of Commerce of the Alicante City Council has canceled its two commercial revitalization days of Halloween scheduled for this Thursday, October 31, in the Argel and Puente squares, according to municipal sources. The association of merchants of Poeta Quintana street has postponed its Halloween party scheduled for this Thursday.

The Acua association also joins the mourning and will only maintain "exclusively" the Halloween route through the shops of La Florida "because it is dedicated to children". They have explained that "they are eagerly awaiting this moment and we believe they should never stop being happy and enjoying, asking you, please, for a position of respect in the face of what happened". In this way, they will not carry out acts or festival publications of the event in mourning.

The Hogueras suspend their event agenda

The bonfires of the different neighborhoods of Alicante have organized for this Thursday, October 31, and Saturday, November 2, numerous Halloween parties. However, several districts have already, following the recommendations of the City Council and Federació, communicated the suspension or postponement. Among them, the Central Market, La Florida, Princesa Mercedes, Rabassa, Santa Isabel, Hernán Cortés, Remigio Soler bonfires.

Similarly, the Sèneca-Autobusos bonfire has also communicated the postponement of its dramatized reading of the play 'Don Juan Tenorio', scheduled for this October 31 at the Cloister of the Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás, to next November 8 in mourning for the fatalities that Dana has left in the neighboring province of Valencia.
