The cleaning and waste collection service in Alicante is being reinforced during the Easter period with 60 mechanized teams and 89 workers. This was announced on Wednesday by the Alicante City Council and the contracted company, Netial, who emphasize that the additional measures will remain active until Easter Sunday.
The operation aims to "provide adequate attention" to both residents in areas near the processions and other locals and tourists visiting the city center to enjoy the festivities. Additionally, cleaning efforts are intensified on beaches, coves, and coastal promenades, according to Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Street Cleaning and Waste Management, Manuel Villar.
Villar details that the special service conducts touch-up tasks before the processions and cleans the routes immediately after they conclude. Several high-pressure cleaners complete the work by washing the streets early in the morning to remove wax residues, while in the afternoon, "teams focus on maintaining and reviewing the city's condition."
Each day, 60 workers are dedicated to these Easter-related tasks, according to the government team. Of these, 20 are assigned to the night cleaning service, equipped with 7 water tanks, 2 sweepers, an auto-scrubber, and 4 auxiliary vehicles, while the morning shift operates with 22 workers, 15 manual sweepers, 4 high-pressure cleaners, 1 sweeper, 1 scrubber, and 1 auxiliary vehicle.
In the afternoon, the City Council has allocated a cleaning reinforcement consisting of 3 press trucks, 3 auxiliary vehicles, 1 high-pressure cleaner, and 6 workers to tidy the streets where processions take place and the main avenues in the city center, the same sources add.
For the Easter Sunday gathering on April 20, Netial workers will undertake the cleaning and washing of the Town Hall square and adjacent streets, and with the help of sweepers and blowers, they will carry out the subsequent cleaning of the traditional confetti thrown from the balconies of the town hall.
Similarly, during the Easter season, a special daily cleaning operation has been launched for beaches, coves, and adjacent promenades, including those on Tabarca Island, with 25 workers: 6 tractors, 19 beach cleaning and bin emptying workers, and 2 machines for sand sifting.
This is because during this period, Alicante's beaches begin to receive a higher number of visitors. For this reason, the urban cleaning work for Easter has been reinforced since last weekend on Alicante's beaches to ensure they are in perfect condition every day.
The City Council recalls that last year, over 4,000 tons of waste were removed during Easter. Netial emphasizes the importance of keeping the municipality clean and calls for the collaboration of all Alicante residents and visitors during this period.
