The Alicante City Council has definitively approved in the Government Board this Tuesday the aid of €1.5 million for those affected by the storm in the province of Valencia, through the fourth amendment of the 2024 Municipal Budget. "This contribution is a demonstration of commitment to our Valencian brothers in the recovery of their infrastructure, public services, and livelihoods," explained the deputy mayor and municipal spokesperson, Manuel Villar.

The Alicante City Council has ratified the budget amendment within the 2024 budget, which allocates the aforementioned amount of €1.5 million for aid for the storm. The deputy mayor explained that "in this budget amendment, €1.5 million from the Treasury Surplus for General Expenses is allocated to the aid that will be managed by the Generalitat Valenciana."

The initial discussions to promote this initiative took place during the solidarity collection held at the Alicante Technification Centre between November 1 and 3, and were conducted between the mayor and the spokesperson of the Vox municipal group, Carmen Robledillo. Subsequently, the proposal was presented to the rest of the municipal groups in the spokespersons' board. The mayor, Luis Barcala, thanked all political groups for supporting this "important initiative at this time."

This financial aid adds to the solidarity campaign for the collection of products and food carried out by the Alicante City Council, thanks to which 260 tonnes of urgent humanitarian aid were sent to Valencia. Additionally, the City Council has sent personnel, vehicles, machinery, and materials for security, emergencies, cleaning, and parks and gardens to the affected areas.

Current needs include the repair of roads and bridges to restore communications, the reconstruction of homes, and the reactivation of affected economic activities. It is also essential to provide emotional and psychological support to those who have lost not only material possessions but also their security and stability. The financial aid allocated by the Alicante City Council is part of this collective effort to ensure comprehensive recovery.
