Alicante to Build 500 New Homes and a Large Commercial Area Near Vía Parque

The city of Alicante will have another operational neighbourhood, Cerámica Santo Tomás. This area is located between Avenida de Novelda, the streets Pintor Roberto Ruiz Morante and Catedrático Eliseo Gómez Serrano, and Avenida de Unicef (Vía Parque).

The City Council is advancing in the urbanization of this sector of Alicante. To this end, it will build nearly 500 new homes in the neighbourhood, as well as a large commercial area, an educational facility, a sociocultural centre, and several green spaces.

The Local Government Board has approved the urbanization project of one of the five units into which this sector is divided, thus adding to the three already under development. The last two are in the process of approval and are expected to proceed in the coming months.

This new step in city planning aims to "consolidate the urban fabric in this area, eliminating voids and providing the neighbourhood with tertiary services, housing, facilities, and much-needed green spaces," explained the Urban Planning Councillor, Rocío Gómez.

This new Cerámica Santo Tomás neighbourhood, located in Ciudad Jardín, will have VPO in the new homes. This is intended to continue the "requalification" of established neighbourhoods with new services and facilities.

The APD2 Cerámica Santo Tomás sector is part of the developments included in the current PGOU and has undergone various modifications. It has been divided into five execution units, two of which are already developed, although construction has not yet been completed.

Of the three plots yet to be developed, units 2, 4, and 5 are in the process of approval, and specifically, unit 2 has had its urbanization project approved. This plot, located between Avenida de Novelda and the streets Catedrático Eliseo Gómez Serrano and Pintor Rodes, will be largely allocated for the installation of a large commercial area, although land is also reserved for a sociocultural facility and a landscaped area.

Execution units 4 and 5, which are located on Vía Parque, include the execution of unfinished roads, an educational plot, a green area, and housing, and are currently in the process of reallocation and programming, respectively.
