The province will bid farewell to 2024 with a winter weather that is not so usual in Alicante. In recent weeks, the weather forecast has been marked by thermometers nearing 0 degrees and possibilities of frost in the interior of the province. However, it will be from this weekend when rains will settle with the possibility of light and isolated showers like the one experienced on Saturday morning in the capital.

Thus, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has announced that for Sunday 29th, intervals of low clouds are expected without ruling out light precipitation in the province. It will be mainly during the afternoon and with special incidence in the south of the province when the possibility of rain exceeds 25 percent.

In the coming days, this forecast of possible light rains will continue, until finally, on December 31st, Aemet predicts that the possibility of precipitation will increase to 95 percent throughout the province. From this day, it is expected that the rains will be accompanied by storms that could be locally strong, a precaution that will extend until January 1st.

As for temperatures, on Sunday, December 29th, they will remain unchanged, although weak frosts are expected in the interior, in municipalities such as Alcoi or Villena, which will be below 3 degrees. As for the maximums, they will be around 15 degrees in the province. The wind will blow lightly from a variable direction or remain calm.

The weather in Spain

Unstable weather and precipitation will gain strength on the Peninsula as the week progresses, in which the entry into 2025 will occur, according to the special forecast issued this Saturday by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The public body has detailed that Sunday 29th and Monday 30th will be characterised by stability in the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, with light precipitation in the southeastern peninsula and the Strait area.

However, they have indicated that it cannot be ruled out that on Monday these precipitations in the southeast may appear as storms and be locally strong, while some showers are also possible on Monday in parts of western Galicia.

At the same time, maximum temperatures are expected to register little change or fall slightly, while frosts will extend, affecting large areas of the northern half of the peninsula, southern plateau, and southeastern mountains, being locally moderate in the northern plateau, Iberian system, and Pyrenees.

Meanwhile, at the start of the week, fog is forecast in large areas of the interior of the peninsula, being persistent in the northern plateau, northeastern depressions, and northern interior of Galicia, while the wind will be light with an easterly predominance and some strong intervals of easterly wind in the Strait.

In the Canary archipelago, stable weather is expected with the presence of light haze, with easterly winds and temperatures with little change.

Looking ahead to Tuesday 31st (New Year's Eve), Wednesday 1st (New Year's Day) and Thursday 2nd, Aemet has predicted an increase in instability in the southeastern peninsula and Balearic Islands, where showers could occur that may occasionally be accompanied by storms and be locally strong in the southeastern coasts; in the rest of the Peninsula, on Tuesday, fog will continue persistently in the previously mentioned areas, tending to reduce in extent and persistence in the following days.
