With the rising heat, the city beaches have started this 1st of July without some of the usual services. Thus, beaches like Postiguet still lack the buoys that mark the swimming area and facilitate the work of lifeguard services.

The spokesperson for the government team, Cristina Cutanda, has indicated that a new contract has been signed this year and the delay is due to this. In fact, she highlighted that installation has already begun in Urbanova and that the work will be completed throughout this week.

However, the socialist municipal group believes that this situation highlights a lack of planning. These criticisms are joined by the absence of umbrellas and sunbeds on some beaches which, although the contract provides for their installation before the start of the high season, have not yet been placed.

The deputy socialist spokesperson, Trini Amorós, has harshly criticised the government team and considered this lack of services "fundamental to achieving excellence". In this regard, she denounced that the sunbed and umbrella service has not yet been launched, for example, on Postiguet beach or on Tabarca island.

And not only that. She also questioned the management of the awnings installed in Tabarca to provide shade in its streets, as they will only be in use for 18 days, despite having involved a municipal investment of 165,649 euros. On the island, residents also demand the installation of sunbeds and umbrellas and the replacement of wooden walkways.

"The current situation denotes disorganisation in the tourist management of Alicante, led by a mayor who does not know when contracts expire and, therefore, does not tender basic services in time to meet the needs of Alicante residents and visitors, thus offering a quality service," Amorós stated.

Regarding the Tabarca awnings, the PSOE has recalled that, once the contract was formalised, a technical report was drawn up warning that, as it is a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), these elements could only be placed for specific events, such as the festivities of San Pedro and San Pablo or the Virgen del Carmen.

"Barcala has been at the helm of Alicante for seven years, but he still does not know the city or the needs of those who live here and those who visit us. It is unheard of for the mayor to authorise an investment of 165,649 euros to install awnings in a BIC without first consulting the Heritage technicians," the councillor noted.

Amorós concluded that this action demonstrates "the little respect the PP has for the heritage of all Alicante residents. It turns it into an obstacle when our heritage should be an opportunity to show the world our history and uniqueness."
