Alicante's Municipal Housing Board, an autonomous body of the Alicante City Council, received the AVS Award for Action in the Field of Administration and Management of the Housing Park in Barcelona on Thursday. The award was given for 'The challenge of improving the management and administration of a constantly changing housing park.'
This national award to the Alicante City Council for its effective management and administration of the public housing park was received by the Housing Councillor and head of the Municipal Housing Board, Carlos de Juan, from Pilar Aguerri, Director of the Social Management and Rentals Area of the Zaragoza Municipal Housing Society and Coordinator of the AVS Social Group, during a recognition event for the quality of public service on Thursday.
These awards honour the best practices in social housing and its administration and management of public housing parks, new construction, environmental management in the housing sector, building rehabilitation, urban revitalisation, better instrumental management of public services, social innovation related to people and architecture (Toni Sorolla award), and the NextGeneration programmes award.
All this aims to contribute to meeting housing needs and facilitating access for all those in need, with special attention to groups with greater difficulties accessing the real estate market, according to the Alicante City Council.
Carlos de Juan explains that "the action presented by the Board is based on a new working methodology, placing the census service at the centre of management, which permanently updates data through visits to the housing park, allowing all aspects related to the park and tenants to be shared. From this joint analysis, each department of the Board defines its actions in an integrated manner within a common strategy, aiming to improve management in all its dimensions."
"With the incorporation of a census and monitoring service for our tenants, not only does it allow us to update our data, but it also provides us with tools to design cross-cutting strategies that help social inclusion and, on the other hand, be more efficient in management and administration from a holistic perspective," explains De Juan.
The Alicante Housing Board is one of the oldest partners of the Association and actively participates in it, holding the Vice Presidency of the Valencian Section of the Association and being part of its Executive Committee.
The Housing Board is an autonomous body of the Alicante City Council, founded in 1981, managing and administering a total of 746 homes owned by it, as well as their respective communities, 64 commercial premises, and 505 parking spaces.
The housing park of the Housing Board consists of 746 homes, physically distributed in complete buildings and those referred to as "extended" homes, located in privately-owned buildings across different neighbourhoods of the city. It also manages 510 privately-owned homes under the Affordable Rental Programme.
Regarding new additions to the housing park, 15 rental homes for young people are currently being built in the Old Town, and the construction of 32 new rental homes for young people on Calle Ceuta is in the bidding process, along with the rehabilitation works of a building with 14 energy-efficient homes in the San Gabriel neighbourhood of Alicante, aimed at young people within the Municipal Youth Emancipation Programme.
