The Alicante City Council has approved in the Government Board the classification raised by the Contracting Committee for the award of the works for 'Improvement of energy efficiency, digitalisation, and accessibility of the Alicante Sports Technification Centre' (phase I), with the best-rated offer being submitted by the company Serveo Servicios S.A. for an amount of €1,546,210.

Among the improvements intended for the Pedro Ferrándiz pavilion are proposals to enhance climate control by installing more efficient equipment than those currently in place. These energy efficiency improvements could result in an electricity bill saving of between 37% and 45%.

Additionally, the lighting needs of the sports courts and the rest of the complex will be improved to increase efficiency and resolve lighting issues that have also affected this reference pavilion in recent years. This ambitious municipal project also includes safety and accessibility improvements, mainly in accessible routes from access points to current stay and use points. This project is funded by the European Next Generation funds through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

The Infrastructure Department, led by Councillor Cristina García, is promoting the modernisation project of this reference sports centre in the Alicante capital, a regular venue for Lucentum basketball games, as well as hosting the training of athletes in other sports, with the aim of offering the best conditions in terms of lighting with energy efficiency criteria, climate control, and digitalisation of access and ticket sales processes along with other proposed improvements for the facility.

The modernisation of the Pedro Ferrándiz Technification Centre will be possible thanks to the collaboration of the Generalitat, as the regional administration assessed - before transferring management to the City Council - with the preliminary study the necessary investment for improving accessibility, digitalisation, and accessibility of the city's most emblematic sports facility.

Modernisation Plan

This action is part of the municipal sports facilities modernisation plan, endowed with more than €20 million, which also includes the comprehensive renovation of the Pitiu Rochel pavilion and its surroundings, the reform of the Joaquín Villar athletics stadium, the padel and basketball courts of Monte Tossal, and the renewal of artificial turf in all the municipality's football fields and the surface of the Vicente Crespo de Babel and Nacho Novoa pavilions in Ciudad Jardín.

During the current fiscal year, the continuation of this ambitious plan is planned with the renovation of the Rafael Pastor pavilion in Monte Tossal and the start of works on the Tómbola Arena and the sports changing room modules on Niza Avenue in San Juan Beach.
