Alicante is progressing in the process of renewing the Local Police vehicle fleet. Five companies are competing to win the contract to supply nine hybrid SUV patrol vehicles, which were put out to tender in mid-August for 392,471 euros. Technicians are currently reviewing the submitted proposals and the specific characteristics of the vehicles required, which will allow for classification and subsequent awarding of the contract.
The Councillor for Security, Julio Calero, emphasizes that "the Alicante City Council continues to work and allocate resources to the renewal and updating of both personal equipment and the vehicle fleet of the Local Police, with the aim of ensuring that officers work under the best conditions." He adds that the new vehicles "will help reinforce the fleet and replace those that are older or in worse condition."
Calero explains that "new additions to the police vehicle fleet are planned in the short term, specifically three 'pick-ups' for rural areas, a van for neighborhoods, and more patrol cars."
The second budget modification for 2024, approved by the City Council at the end of July, included an additional 589,675.91 euros for this purpose, as well as 343,750 euros for the purchase of transmission equipment for the Local Police.
The renewal of the patrol vehicle fleet is complemented by the recent acquisition of 10 motorcycles, as well as other recent improvements to officers' personal security equipment, including the purchase of 250 ballistic protection vests and 120 semi-automatic handguns.
