National Police officers have arrested an Algerian fugitive in Alicante, wanted by French authorities as the alleged perpetrator of a homicide, thwarting his escape to his home country after also hiding in Ciudad Real. The fugitive faces a sentence of up to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the murder of a man that occurred last February in the French town of Saint-Etienne.
According to the National Police, he intended to flee to Algeria and had previously taken refuge in the province of Ciudad Real, where a friend had provided him with cover to evade capture.
Authorities also discovered that the fugitive was constantly moving from one province to another to avoid being located and to evade justice.
The investigation began in early March when French authorities issued a European Arrest Warrant against a man who, in early February, was allegedly involved in the death of a man whose body was discovered on February 9 in the French town of Saint-Etienne.
Forensic analysis determined that the deceased man's body showed a severe head injury and signs of strangulation.
French authorities, alongside Spanish agents and the French Liaison Officer in Madrid, participated in the investigation, initially locating him in the province of Ciudad Real with the help of a friend.
Finally, the agents' investigations led to the detection of the fugitive in the city of Alicante, where he was identified and arrested.
