Intercity has crumbled after their commendable draw at Rico Pérez against Hércules and the good start to the season. Sandroni's team has lost two consecutive matches at their home ground, Antonio Solana, and has given very poor impressions. The Argentine coach is now under significant scrutiny.
The field is in terrible condition, which doesn't help. But it's no excuse either. Intercity makes too many changes to their starting eleven each week and can't adapt to their peculiar playing surface. Opponents take advantage, and 8 out of 9 possible points have flown away from Solana in just three matches.
After a dull first half, Intercity had a golden opportunity to move up and dispel doubts, but Álvaro Pérez missed from the penalty spot for the first time. A penalty on Ñito González, and the Alicante player missed the shot. The goalkeeper saved it.
But Intercity never controlled the game. The dominance was alternating, and Algeciras grew stronger with their substitutions. A corner kick a quarter of an hour before the end decided the victory for the Andalusian side. A header from Eric Montes was enough for Algeciras to secure their first win of the season.
Intercity will travel to Antequera next Sunday at 19:30. Sandroni is in a delicate situation. He urgently needs a good result to reinforce his work.
