Last December, during the traditional Christmas meeting with the media, the mayor of l'Alfàs del Pi, Vicente Arques, announced that his municipality had prepared a comprehensive set of projects to apply for the new European funding call, named the Local Integral Development Strategy (Edil), once it opens in 2025. This initiative follows the now-concluded Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategies (Edusi).
At that time, Arques revealed that the documentation to be sent to Brussels includes actions "of vital importance" such as the enclosure of the multi-sport court, valued at 1,187,000 euros; phases II and III of the conversion of the Paseo de las Estrellas into a single platform, estimated at 3,375,000 euros; and phase III of the Barranco Hondo channeling, costing 3,974,000 euros. Together with other projects, this amounts to a total investment of 14 million euros.
Specifically, Arques explained, "through this new Edil Plan, with a validity period from 2025 to 2029, covering administrative and construction phases, we are applying for 14,172,664.65 euros." Arques highlighted a significant change from the Edusi Plan, "which split costs 50% between European funds and municipal contributions. In this case, the European Union finances 60% of the projects, leaving the remaining 40% for the Town Council."
Now, the mayor of Alfàs has announced that the Town Council has initiated a citizen participation process, concluding on January 22, through a simple survey that "aims to gather the opinions and proposals of the citizens on the various projects to be included" in this Edil.
The mayor emphasized that it is about "helping to design a plan that truly meets the needs of the community," promoting integral and sustainable development.
Indeed, to apply for this new European Union funding call, Arques elaborated, local entities must justify their candidacy with citizen participation processes that allow both the business sector and civil society to contribute their assessments and proposals.
