The Town Hall of l'Alfàs del Pi has initiated the transformation of the iconic Paseo de las Estrellas into a pedestrian-only area. This first phase of the project is part of the 2022 Tourist Sustainability Plan in Destination (PSTD) and is funded through the European Union's NextGeneration Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

The mayor of l'Alfàs, Vicente Arques, visited the site today alongside the Councillor for Environment and Beaches, Luis Miguel Morant, and the Councillor for Commerce, Patrick de Meirsman, to oversee the progress of the works. The total investment for this initiative amounts to 560,640.14 euros, with the primary goal of pedestrianising the promenade in line with the municipality's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS).

A more accessible and sustainable promenade

The project aims to address accessibility issues identified in the Universal Accessibility Plan, as well as promote sustainable mobility by prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. "We want to transform this space into a single accessible platform, encouraging pedestrian and bicycle traffic and improving the quality of the urban environment," explained Mayor Vicente Arques. Additionally, vegetation will be enhanced, thus revaluing the seafront of l'Albir, the most touristic area of the municipality.

The actions include the repair, modernisation, and consolidation of the promenade, removing architectural barriers and expanding spaces for pedestrian and cyclist traffic. A new surface drainage network will also be created, adapted to the renewal of the urban road, modifying the current cross slopes to improve accessibility.

"It is crucial that tourist destinations offer accessible spaces that promote inclusion," highlighted Arques. "Such initiatives respond to the needs of an ageing population with mobility issues, allowing all citizens to enjoy public spaces with greater comfort."

Improvement of energy efficiency in public lighting

In parallel with the pedestrianisation of the Paseo de las Estrellas, the Town Hall of l'Alfàs del Pi will implement a project to improve the energy efficiency of public lighting. With an investment of 106,193.39 euros, this initiative is part of the 2023 PSTD and involves the installation of state-of-the-art LED luminaires with intelligent control and regulation systems.

New accessible bathrooms on the seafront

Another improvement planned for the Paseo de las Estrellas is the construction of two accessible bathrooms for people with reduced mobility. This project, with an investment of 52,191.44 euros, aligns with the objectives of the municipality's Universal Accessibility Plan.

The installation of these facilities on the Racó de l'Albir beach will ensure that everyone, especially the elderly and those with reduced mobility, can enjoy the sea with greater comfort and autonomy.

With these actions, l'Alfàs del Pi strengthens its commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and the improvement of the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
