The northern province of Alicante is bracing this Tuesday for what is known as a dry downburst. This atmospheric effect is characterised by a strong downward current of dry air, causing intense and sudden gusts of wind. The Valencian Government has activated an orange alert for rain and storms due to this phenomenon, with hail expected from 2 p.m.
The activated alert affects the regions of Marina Alta, l'Alcoià, and the Upper and Middle Vinalopó, whose municipalities are already announcing preventive measures. One such municipality is Alcoi, whose town hall has announced the closure of all outdoor municipal facilities from 1 p.m., including sports facilities, parks, and municipal swimming pools. Additionally, all outdoor sports activities scheduled for this Tuesday are suspended.

Furthermore, citizens are advised to avoid natural spaces such as the Greenway and to take precautions against the risk of storms with hail. In this regard, the council advises avoiding unnecessary travel and seeking shelter in buildings or covered places. It is also advised against taking cover under trees, pergolas, or unstable structures, as they could be dangerous in the event of hail or strong gusts of wind.
It is also recommended to protect vehicles in covered areas, if possible, to avoid damage. Likewise, citizens are urged to remove objects from balconies or terraces that could fly away or break due to the impact of hail.
The Councillor for Security, Raül Llopis, explained that "prevention is essential to ensure safety in situations like this. With the possibility of hail, it is crucial to act responsibly and avoid any unnecessary risk."
