Alejandro Blanco has been the only one to submit his candidacy for the presidency of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), which means the Galician leader will be proclaimed the top official of the organisation next Friday.

Blanco has the backing of 35 Olympic federations and 23 non-Olympic federations to continue leading the COE for another four years, until 2029, following the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Alejandro Blanco will commence his sixth consecutive term as president of the COE, a position he has held, always without opposition in the elections, since 2005, when he succeeded Alejandro Echevarría after presiding over the Spanish Judo Federation.

On December 1, 2021, he was re-elected for the last time without opposition by the COE assembly, with 156 votes in favour and seven abstentions, after being supported by 100% of the Olympic federations and 92% of the non-Olympic federations. In his previous term, Alejandro Blanco became the longest-serving leader of the Spanish Olympic organisation.
