The 33rd edition of the Alcoi Theatre Festival is officially inaugurated. It took place on Monday evening with a double session: 'Ibers, Stories of Bees, Queens, and Drones' by La Dependent company and 'Cursed Ladies' by Arden.
The opening day of this festival was attended by the Regional Secretary of Culture, Pilar Tébar, and the Director General of Culture, Miquel Nadal, who attended the Principal Theatre of Alcoi and noted that the Festival is 'a reference for the entire scenic sector of the Community'.
This exhibition, dedicated to dance, theatre, circus, and magic, hosts a total of 22 new shows from leading companies in the regional scene, as well as new voices from the Valencian scene and two national productions, from October 21 to 25.
During the inauguration, the Culture officials highlighted the Generalitat's commitment to the performing arts and congratulated Alcoy for a new edition of the Festival, 'which is an opportunity to enjoy theatre and also a professional meeting point to showcase new proposals, mostly from Valencian companies'.
Likewise, they referred to the 2024 honorary award for the Valencian Performing Arts granted by the IVC, which was announced this Monday, and has been awarded posthumously to María Cádenas, who was also awarded the Ciutat de Alcoi prize in 2013.
The festival is supported by the Valencian Institute of Culture, which this year contributes 155,000 euros to collaborate with the Alcoi City Council in its organization, aiming to promote quality scenic products and become a space for meeting and exchanging experiences among artists and professionals in the sector.
