The Alicante Institute of Culture Juan Gil-Albert presented this Tuesday morning, October 1, the two projects selected in the second edition of the Petricor Performing Arts Research Residencies that start this Tuesday at the Xorret de Catí facilities.
The presentation was attended by the Deputy for Culture, Juan de Dios Navarro, and the director of IAC, Cristina Martínez, as well as Eugenio Mataix, Iratxe Arrizabalo, and Paula Serrano, members of the participating teams.
Navarro recalled the purpose of this proposal, which in this call has opted for the works "Safaretjos: Voices of Yesterday" and "Murmuring Corpographies." "It is an initiative aimed at fostering the creation of new synergies between artists through coexistence in a unique and conducive environment such as the Xorret de Catí area, which is part of the network of natural spaces managed by the Alicante Provincial Council."
For her part, Cristina Martínez explained that "eight proposals were submitted compared to three in the first edition in 2022, which demonstrates the need and interest in this type of multidisciplinary initiatives for creators in the province." In this regard, the cultural director reiterated the firm commitment of the Alicante institute to research and support for this competition that will be held biennially and whose economic endowment has increased from 4,500 to 6,000 euros per selected project.
In this second edition, the jury was composed not only of the Deputy for Culture and the director of IAC but also by choreographer and creator María Asunción Noales, actor and theater pedagogue Iván Jiménez, artist Olga Diego, and playwright Josefa Alvarado.
The multidisciplinary team of "Safaretjos: Voices of Yesterday" is formed by Eugenio Mataix - project leader - along with Iratxe Arrizabalo, Juan José Mataix, Miriam Herrero, Rebeca Mollá, and Clara Toledo. It is an artistic project about the history of washhouses in the province of Alicante through a scenic piece that combines documentary theater, cinematic audiovisuals, and performative experiences.
The other selected proposal is driven by Paula Serrano, Claudia Ripoll, David Orrico, María Esteve, Sybila Gutiérrez, and Isabel Álvarez. "Murmuring Corpographies" is a poetic and multidisciplinary exploration of how the human body and the Xorret del Catí environment can interact to create a unique visual and sensory dialogue. Through contemporary dance, the project aims to capture and translate the essence of the landscape - its textures, sounds, and rhythms - into movements that visually narrate the history and character of this special place.
