Aguas de Alicante to Award €1,500 for Best Environmental Short Film

The Alicante International Film Festival has introduced a new award this year in its Official Short Film Section, the Aguas de Alicante Short Film Award, which will be granted to works with an environmental theme and comes with a prize of €1,500.

The award, to be presented at the Closing Gala of the festival on May 24 at the Teatro Principal in Alicante, aims to highlight short films that address issues related to nature and have the goal of environmental education.

"Thanks to this new Aguas de Alicante award, we want new filmmakers to showcase through their work what is happening around us in terms of the environment. We are going to highlight works that contribute to raising awareness of the need to act and protect our planet, as we only have one. Once again, this Festival promotes cinema with social and awareness-raising purposes," commented Vicente Seva, director of the Alicante Film Festival.

"For our company, this Aguas de Alicante Short Film Award represents the consolidation of a collaborative trajectory with the Alicante International Film Festival that began more than a decade ago. At the same time, the promotion of this award aligns with an environmental protection strategy that we extend to all possible areas, both within our daily management and outside of it, as in this case where through this creative avenue we support the best short film of the festival on the environmental theme," declared Martín Sanz, Director of Communication and External Relations at Aguas de Alicante.

Throughout the week of the Alicante Festival, from May 17 to 24, the city hosts various activities related to the world of cinema. On one hand, there are screenings of films and short films competing in the Official Section, and on the other, parallel cinema-related events are organized: workshops, master classes, feature films in competition, French cinema cycle, short film cycle, screening of invited films, etc. The program highlights the Opening and Closing Galas of the festival, where honorary awards are presented to film professionals.
