UTE Elche, the municipal cleaning company, highlighted that the special cleaning operation for Christmas collected 205,000 kilograms of waste on the morning of January 1st, a national holiday. Approximately the same amount was removed from the streets on the morning of December 25th, Christmas Day, also a public holiday.
For December 25th and January 1st, UTE Elche organized a special operation with over 60 workers using collectors, tanks, mixed sweepers, high-pressure hot water cleaners, and washers to restore normalcy to the streets after the celebrations of Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
Throughout the festive season, the company has increased staff and enhanced mechanical and manual sweeping services in all celebration areas and during all shifts: morning, afternoon, and night. Additionally, manual sweeping efforts have been intensified in areas hosting events such as the Christmas Fair, fireworks displays, the Virgin's Arrival processions, New Year's Eve celebrations, the San Silvestre race, and the Santa Claus parade, as well as leisure areas in the city centre and Altabix industrial estate. The same reinforcement will be applied for upcoming festivities, such as the Three Kings Parade on January 5th.
Additionally, rear-loading waste containers in the historic centre have been reinforced, with daily collections. This special cleaning service began on December 22nd and will continue until January 6th.
