The Aemet Warns of a Powerful Anticyclone Bringing Up to 35 Degrees in Several Municipalities of Alicante

The State Meteorological Agency has issued a warning about this phenomenon, which will bring a 'period of atmospheric stability' in the Iberian Peninsula and the province of Alicante, with temperatures that will progressively rise as the days go by.

The agency's warning indicates that temperatures will be much higher than expected in the province during this period, with mercury levels possibly exceeding 35 degrees in several municipalities of Alicante by the upcoming weekend, May 31 and June 1.

The Azores anticyclone will not be the only phenomenon bringing heat to the peninsula. Aemet also points to the possible 'presence of a DANA between the Canary Islands and the Gulf of Cadiz' starting Wednesday, which will induce a warm, dry air mass with suspended dust of African origin.

This southerly wind will first enter through Andalusia and the Alboran Sea, then spread over the central peninsula. As a result, Aemet notes, 'there will be an additional increase in temperatures, with values typical of summer.'

Beyond Friday, Aemet does not dare to make further forecasts. 'Uncertainty increases towards the weekend,' but it does anticipate the probability that from Saturday, atmospheric instability will rise again. 'This could lead to increased cloudiness and some storms, which, along with possible haze, would cause the start of a temperature drop.'

Temperatures will rise, with highs above 30 degrees most days until reaching expected peaks on Thursday 29 or Friday 30, depending on the municipality. Below are the maximum temperatures expected on Friday and some of the municipalities where they are expected to reach them.

• 29 degrees: Alicante, Xàbia, Mutxamel.
