Intense heat and temperatures above the normal seasonal average are expected in both Alicante province and the rest of the peninsula for July, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Forecasts indicate that the week from July 7 to 13 "will be warmer than usual across almost the entire Peninsula," and Aemet notes that although rainfall will be scarce in the western half of the peninsula, "some showers may occur in the Mediterranean area."

A very similar situation is expected in the following weeks: "temperatures above the normal seasonal average, and therefore intense heat in most of the Peninsula," states the meteorological agency.

It will be a period "with very little rainfall in large areas of the southern half, but showers, mostly associated with storms, cannot be ruled out in the rest of the peninsular territory and the Balearic Islands," according to Aemet.

Regarding average temperatures, values three degrees above the seasonal averages are expected for the second week of the month. Similar data will be recorded in the following two weeks, with three degrees above the average in the pre-coastal and inland areas of Alicante.

For the upcoming week, Aemet forecasts indicate minimums between 23 and 25 degrees on the coast and maximums up to 33 degrees. Meanwhile, in the southern part of the province, maximums will climb to 37 degrees, dropping to 33 by the weekend. In the interior, a similar situation is expected, but with cooler minimums, around 18 degrees.

Mediterranean Temperature

MeteOrihuela also warns of the high Mediterranean temperature, which recently peaked at 31 degrees at one of the buoys in the Balearic Islands. The high sea temperatures further complicate an already hot summer.

According to MeteOrihuela, even before the start of the summer heatwave, which is statistically the hottest period of the year, record sea temperatures have been recorded. This phenomenon is "increasing the number of torrid and tropical nights, resulting in ineffective breezes and a muggy feeling, and could provide extra fuel for storms."
