Aedive Describes Lack of Electric Vehicle Support as an 'Emergency'

The Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility, Aedive, has sent a letter to the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, requesting the retroactive reactivation of the Moves III Plan as an "urgent solution to the suffocating situation the sector is experiencing" and as an incentive towards electric vehicles in Spain.

The organisation describes the absence of support for electric vehicles as an "emergency" during a very delicate time for a market that is experiencing an artificial start to the year, sustained by operations closed in the last months of 2024 and registered in January and February 2025, but facing a real halt in new orders, both for new electric vehicles and charging points.

In addition to the negative consequences for meeting the PNIEC objectives at the national level, Aedive warns that it will generate regional signals that could weaken the EU's decisions regarding CO2 emission reduction targets, potentially hindering the growth of electric mobility in Europe.

"This is the story of a two-speed Europe, where manufacturers will focus on the easier and more developed markets for electric mobility - such as Germany, France, and Belgium - leaving behind the more challenging ones, including Spain," concludes the letter sent to Moncloa.

The association, representing nearly 300 large companies, SMEs, and startups within the industrial, technological, and service ecosystem of electric mobility in Spain, insists on the constant hemorrhage of revenue and jobs in the sector, which had also planned investments in 2025, associated with the expected growth in electric vehicle registrations due to the tightening of CO2 emission targets under the CAFE regulation and the arrival of more battery vehicle models at increasingly competitive prices.

Additionally, the letter states that they have confirmed with the main opposition party, the Partido Popular, that "they would not oppose the approval of a Royal Decree Law on this matter, as it is a demand from the business sector."
