The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has reported that the rains, showers, and snow expected tomorrow in various parts of the Peninsula and Balearic Islands may affect road traffic.

In this situation, the DGT has reminded the importance of checking road conditions, being informed about possible precipitation in the area to be traveled, and reducing vehicle travel if possible.

The forecasts from Aemet have indicated that the Levante area, Balearic archipelago, and southern peninsula will again receive heavy rains starting Tuesday.

"Being informed and cautious in travel are two essential aspects in the coming days," the DGT reminded in a statement, also pointing out that this caution in travel is particularly relevant "especially in Valencia, where numerous roads remain closed and travel continues to be very complicated throughout the metropolitan area."

The DGT has highlighted that in the Cantabrian Mountains and the Central System (Ávila), chains or winter tires must be available for driving due to snow forecasts.

The state agency has reported that these precipitations may affect traffic not only on regional and local roads but also on high-capacity roads, highways, and motorways.

On the other hand, it recalled that on Sunday morning, a landslide occurred on the AP-66 motorway at kilometer 76, making it impossible to travel on the mentioned road and interrupting the connection between the autonomous community of Asturias and the Community of Castilla y León.

In this situation, the DGT has informed that the only communication route between both communities is the N-630 road that runs through the Pajares pass, one of the passes where traffic restrictions and the use of chains or winter tires are first established in adverse weather conditions.

It has also explained that using this road as an alternative route for road freight transport is not recommended for road safety reasons and has advised routes through the A-67 motorway from the plateau connecting Palencia with Santander and then the A-8 'Cantabrian Axis', for destinations in the eastern Asturias area (Llanes, Ribadesella), as well as the route via A-6 to Lugo to take the A-8 'Cantabrian Axis', for destinations in the western Asturias area (Navia, Luarca).
