"We must react. It is time to sit down, leave behind miseries and pettiness, and work together for our region, the Marina Alta." This was the message that the president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, sent to political representatives of all public administrations, urging that the spirit of collaboration and cooperation existing among entrepreneurs be transferred to the political class. Success, he said, "lies in the good harmony between the private and public sectors." Moreover, he emphasized that the private sector "has long ceased to be mean."

The member of the Board of Directors of the Valencian Association of Entrepreneurs (AVE) took advantage of the presence of mayors and regional administration officials at the 20th anniversary celebration of the Cercle Empresarial de la Marina Alta (Cedma) to reprimand politicians, urging them to abandon their internal and electoral battles, "stop thinking they are the keepers of morality and honesty, because often their actions and miseries demonstrate the opposite, and see entrepreneurs as their collaborators and friends."

Peace and tranquility

In his speech, he recalled that they want "peace" and "tranquility," which can only be achieved with political, social, and economic stability to "do what citizens want." However, "there is a nineteenth-century and outdated tendency against entrepreneurs, as if they are only there to do business, leading to a defense of the public sector against the private sector."

Utor's defense of entrepreneurship was based on some of the demands made (but not achieved) by Cedma over the past two decades. Among them, the train, "which will now be a trolleybus, an electric train, that has not arrived"; the bus station and the much-needed access to the port area of Dénia (perimeter road); or the project aimed at turning the port into an autonomous port, which was thwarted by "irrationality, electoral competition, and partisan politicization."

In fact, he defended the port of Dénia as a "natural" resource generator because its nautical sports offer is the most important in the Valencian Community and also records more than 500,000 passengers traveling by boat to the Balearic Islands. He recalled that the only intention was to establish a board of directors where the Generalitat, the City Council, companies, and unions would be represented. "But it hit the wall of irrationality."
