The Valverde building is the latest addition to the UMH campus in Elche. This morning, the construction of this facility was received, which will be dedicated to research and will house four Engineering departments: Communications Engineering; Systems and Automation Engineering; Mechanical and Energy Engineering; and the Department of Materials Science, Optics, and Electronic Technology. It will also be the headquarters of the Research Institute in Engineering (I3E).
The budget for the works amounts to a total of 14,789,765 euros. A delegation from the UMH Vice-Rectorate for Infrastructure, led by its head, Pedro Vicente, attended the reception of the works.
For a second phase of the works, UMH has tendered the urbanization of the building's surroundings, as well as the interior garden areas, and a new parking lot on the south facade.
The new Departmental building has a constructed area of 10,617 m², of which 8,873 m² are usable space. Inside, 3,000 m² are dedicated to research laboratories. Additionally, the structure has more than 100 individual and double offices for teaching and research staff, as well as six seminar rooms for postgraduate courses, master's degrees, and other training activities.
The building consists of two main blocks 'Blocks A and B', which house laboratories, offices, classrooms, lecture halls, and meeting rooms. Both blocks are connected by a central corridor that facilitates access to the building through its north and south facades, where all horizontal circulations on the ground floor are distributed to connect both blocks.
