Abraham Rochel has been appointed as the new sports director of Horneo EÓN Alicante, as the club prepares for the upcoming Asobal season. Rochel, who has been working in Germany, returns to Alicante to shape the team that will compete in Spain's top handball league for the first time.

With over 30 years of experience in handball as a player, coach, and sports director in both Germany and Spain, Rochel has played 16 seasons in Asobal, competed in the EHF Cup, and represented clubs such as BM Altea, BM Valencia, BM Torrevieja, and BM Huesca. His career has placed him among the top 30 scorers in ASOBAL, with 1,292 goals. As an international player, he participated in the U18 European Championship in Estonia, the U20 European Championship in Innsbruck, and the World Championship in Qatar with the Spanish national team.

Rochel's elite handball experience now informs his daily work as a sports director, aiding Horneo EÓN Alicante in establishing itself in Spain's top handball league. "Our main goal is to establish ourselves in Asobal," Rochel admits.

Regarding the team for the 2025-2026 season, which he has been working on for weeks, Rochel assures that it will be "a blend of players with character, competitiveness, and professionalism, who have spent several years in the top league, along with those from last year who also have Asobal experience and have demonstrated their level." "We aim to make these combinations ensure the team is as competitive as possible, so that the coaching staff, the club, and the fans can enjoy next year in Asobal and consolidate the project in the top league, which will be our primary objective," he adds.

With his arrival at Horneo EÓN Alicante, Rochel returns home: "Returning to Alicante is very special, especially doing so with EÓN in a handball project, and even more so with the promotion to Asobal." The club's new sports director expresses his excitement and gratitude for being part of this project, but above all, he is "aware of the responsibility everyone within the club has, as being in the Asobal league entails much more work."
