The confirmation of the passenger transport strike by road, scheduled for its first day this Monday, October 28, has surprised the tourism sector at a time when discretionary airport services will be affected with minimum services of 20%.

This means that most tourists will not be able to travel to the airport, and those arriving at destinations in the Valencian Community will also not be able to reach their holiday spots. "There is no alternative transportation in most cases," stated the hotel association Hosbec, "and the chaos that will occur both at flight terminals and in hotels and tourist accommodations will create a ripple effect among customers who cannot board their plane on time and those who will remain at the airport waiting for availability for their transfer."

At Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport, more than 300 operations and over 55,000 seats could be counted this Monday alone. "Due to the poor connectivity of the airport by other means, it would have a direct impact from this strike and the minimum services to be provided by discretionary passenger transport services," according to Hosbec.

On the other hand, with average occupancy around 80% in the main destinations of the Valencian Community, the hotel association estimates that more than 10,000 travelers could be affected on this Monday's journey between arrivals and departures from the airport, who have transport through their bus services connecting their arrival or departure from the destination with the airport.

The concern about how to travel and use other alternative routes is already on the table. Hosbec calls on the Government Delegation "to reinforce security and monitor compliance with minimum services" and on the labor authority "to review those minimum services that allow increasing those affecting transport to airports and travel link locations due to the importance and chaos it could generate both in airport logistics and in tourist accommodations."
