A lingering sting remains in the Hercules dressing room after conceding four goals in Antequera during a dismal first half, which was later somewhat salvaged but failed to yield any points (4-3). The blue and white team faltered defensively, prompting expected changes in the lineup for Sunday's match against direct rivals Mérida, who arrive at Rico Pérez on a winning streak (three consecutive victories) and five points ahead of Hercules.
Provided the training week proceeds without incident, the return of goalkeeper Carlos Abad and centre-back Alejandro Sotillos to the starting lineup is anticipated. Abad travelled to Antequera, but coach Rubén Torrecilla opted not to risk him following muscle discomfort experienced during the warm-up against Ibiza. The coaching staff chose to continue with Nando Almodóvar in goal after his strong performance against Ibiza, and Abad is now ready to return this coming Sunday.
Sotillos is also expected to return to the heart of the defence, as he continues to recover from an ankle sprain sustained weeks ago. The Madrid native's condition is improving, and barring any setbacks, he is likely to start alongside Montoro in central defence. Together, they have formed the most reliable centre-back pairing this season, without undermining Josema's contributions, who consistently adds aggression and experience.
Torrecilla is hopeful that the recoveries of Abad and Sotillos will coincide with those of Colomina and Aranda. The Catalan midfielder suffered a minor muscle tear at El Collao, from which he has now recovered, and could also return to the lineup against Mérida after playing in the second half against Ibiza and Antequera. Meanwhile, Aranda continues to experience discomfort from a bone bruise on his toe, but his condition improves weekly, and the coach hopes the Granada playmaker can contribute in this crucial final stretch of the league after being sidelined for several weeks.
Despite the defeat in Antequera, the Hercules dressing room approaches the final stages of the season with renewed enthusiasm, as Rico Pérez will play a crucial role. Five of the remaining seven matches will be held at the blue and white coliseum, including the match against Intercity, where the club, presided over by Salva Martí, will play as the home team following an agreement with Enrique Ortiz last summer during Oriol Soldevila's transfer.
