Citizens of the Community have more than double, almost triple, the chances of obtaining a transplant compared to the European average; moreover, 95% of those in need receive one, while globally only 10% of the population's needs are met, and 90% die on the waiting list.

The data was released by the Ministry of Health during the presentation of the 2024 balance sheet, highlighting that the Valencian Community has once again achieved a historic record in the number of transplants performed, with 696, a 14% increase from 2023, and in organ donors, with 305, representing an 11.3% growth. Thus, it is one of the regions with the highest donation rate in the world among those with a similar population size—over five million inhabitants.

These figures are possible because the Valencian Community has 22 donors per million population, whereas Germany has 11 donors per million population.

The Transplant Coordinator of the Valencian Community emphasized that the Valencian Community is "above the national record in every aspect," and this balance demonstrates "a resounding success story on a global level where everyone tries to learn and replicate our model." "I don't know if we've reached the ceiling or not, but these are tremendous results," he stressed.

Records in kidney, lung, and heart transplants

Thus, the data shows that the donor rate in the Valencian Community stands at 57.4 per million population, placing us above the national average of 52.6, and the province of Castellón, with 95 donors per million population, has "the highest rate in the world."

Thus, the Valencian Community concludes the year with historic records in kidney, lung, and heart transplants. Specifically, 402 kidney transplants were performed, a 13.2% increase from the previous year, 100 lung transplants, with a 35.1% increase, and 47 heart transplants, a 34.3% increase from 2023. Additionally, 140 liver transplants and 7 pancreas transplants were carried out.

At Doctor Balmis Hospital in Alicante during 2024, 69 kidney transplants and 35 liver transplants were performed, while at the General University Hospital of Elche, 40 kidney transplants were carried out.
