The reopening of the Cartagena-bound lane of the AP-7 tunnel in Pilar de la Horadada is scheduled for this Thursday. This section, located at kilometre 772 of the Mediterranean motorway, has been closed since May 9th following a serious accident in which a truck driver lost his life while transporting flammable material. The collision resulted in a fire with several explosions, causing damage to the infrastructure.
The reopening was initially planned for last weekend, but on Friday, June 27th, the mayor of Pilar de la Horadada, José María Pérez Sánchez, announced that the traffic would remain closed for several more days until the work is completed.
This section is frequently used by beachgoers heading to the beaches of Pilar de la Horadada, Mil Palmeras, and Campoamor. The closure of the tunnel and the diversion of traffic towards Cartagena via the N-332 to San Pedro often leads to long delays in the area, making it a traffic hotspot, especially during peak holiday travel periods.
